Have you ever heard of a "Safe Haven Law"? Many states have laws that allow the parent of a "child" to drop them off to any Safe Haven location - no questions asked. The parents relinquish (give up) their rights and the child becomes a ward (in the custody) of the State. Florida has a Safe Haven Law that allows parents of infants up to 4 days old to drop off their babies.
Supporters of Safe Haven laws claim that the law saves lives by encouraging parents to surrender infants safely instead of aborting, killing, or discarding them. However, some people do not like these laws because both parents of the child are not required to give consent, so it's possible to give a child away that the other parent wants to keep.
The state of Nebraska has been in the news lately because of their Safe Haven Law enacted this July. Their law has been interpreted to define a "child" as anyone under 18 which has resulted in abandonments of teenage children -- up to 17 years of age!

I think that Nebraska’s Safe Haven Law is not a good idea at all because children of all ages have feelings and those feelings should not be sad feelings but only good feelings. Any child in then world would be devastated to be taken away from their home, especially little kids who do not understand what is going on. If the child is as old as 14, what can possibly be wrong in the household that the parents would want to give them away at such a mature age. Say the reason is that the child is pregnant, is doing drugs, is suicidal the parent shouldn’t give their child away but they should try to help their child cause not everybody’s perfect . Everybody makes mistakes and we shouldn’t abandoned a love done for a mistake that was made. Could you imagine if every time someone made a mistake they were abandoned by their loved ones. Every human being in this world would be abandoned and lonely. A recent study by multiple therapists showed that therapy has helped 49 out of 50 patients fix their problems with family members and especially parents with children. So if there is a problem, these parents should see a therapists or maybe even talk to a coworker ,a friend or family member cause remember that talking is the key to a happy and healthy life. Their is no reason to abandoned a loved one.
I think that Safe Haven laws are good because it’s a great way to save hundreds of babies every year from being killed, abused and abandoned.
I think the age limit should be two days because it usually takes as little as twelve hours for a child to physically and emotionally recognize and know their parents, especially their mother. If you take a child away from their birth parents about a week after their birth, they can become confused as to what happened to their parents cause in that week they became attached to them.
I think what should happen to the parents is that they should be checked out by a therapist to find out why the couple can’t take care of their child. Then someone from the Department of Human Services [DHS] could try to solve the problem and try to make is so that the parents and their child could live a happy life together without the child having to suffer. Then if the parents still don’t want their child, they should be forbidden from having any more children ever again. The child should then be put into a loving family who he or she will live with until they are old enough to live on their own or remain living with their new parents until they are ready. The government should also give that child a scholarship to a collage, so that they can try to make a new life for them self on their own without parents.
I think that the Safe Haven Law is a good idea. It gives many children a chance for maybe a better life. Some children who would have been aborted or abandoned get a chance to have what they need. I think that the maximum age to drop a child off is 3, because when they get older they most likely won't remember it and will turn out happier. The child could probably get adopted and have a new family. So that is why i think that the Safe Haven Law is a very good idea.

I think the safe haven law is a good idea becuase it gives parents a chance to give up there childern to better more exsperinced people to take care of the child.I think the age limit should be up to age thirteen, so then there still by law childeren. If parents who drop off there childeren who are too old should be sent to a foster home. The parents should have to pay when droping off there childeren when there so old.
Wow Leah,
These are some very interesting points to think about. Thank you for putting forth so much effort on your post. I can tell that you really thought about it and did a little research. :)
I think Nebraska's Safe Haven Law is good and bad depending on your side. It's good for parents who may be alcoholics, gamblers, or have other issues that would make them irresponsible as a parent. Another situation would include parents who just split up and doesn't have a big enough income to take care of anyone but themself. It's bad for the state because they have to find a way to house kids up to 18 years old! Most people looking to adopt a kid aren't going to want 17 and 18 year olds but rather 1 and two year olds. Also, the kids will have to continue school somehow and the state is responsible for them. In general, I think Safe Haven Laws are a fantastic idea and give kids a chance who otherwise wouldn't have one. Putting a limit on how old someone can be to be dropped off isn't something I agree with. Like I said above, there are always going to be some circumstances that older kids are going to be given up too. Parents should be able to drop off kids of any age but have to give a contact number of some kind incase the kid doesn't need to be there. Kids who are dropped off should be able to go back to school where they used to live and live with a foster family just like any other adopted kid no matter what the age.
Nebraska's safe haven laws are pretty stupid because the parent of a "child" should always take care of it themselves. It is the parent's responsibility to take care of it and to make sure they are okay all the time, but they can't do that if they don't have them. They should take away all the safe haven laws and make sure the children have a good home.
Yes I think safe havens was a brilliant idea. It allows pregnate women of all ages to instead of having an aborstion or dropping there baby of by some dumpster to take there baby some were were it will be taken care of. But on the negitive side I dont think that the kids should be dropped off if they are older than 1 year old. Because as a kid I think it would be better for some one who remeber there parents to at least live in there home feeling not loved than noing that your parents dispise you so much they just dropped you off at this random place. After saying that I think it makes it oveouse that I disagree with Nebraska's Safe Haven that takes kids as old as 17.
I think that the safe haven law is an extremely cruel law. There is no reason that any parent should give up there children to people they don’t even know. If your kid is in his early or teenage years the parent should have enough scenes to think of the child first. There going to feel lonely and unwanted. I think that the age limit for safe haven is no older then infants. Everyone has a right in life to give up there babies but I don’t think that they should just give them up to strangers without even giving an explanation. I hope our new president realizes that.
The Nebraska's Safe Haven law is indescribable. It is a terribly sad to even think about the idea of someone dropping off a child at such a young age. It would be one thing if it was a teenage girl who got pregnant and doesn’t want an abortion. But for some parent in the thirties to give away a teenager at the age of seventeen is ridiculous. If there is a problem in the house any guidance or family counselor can help and repair the strings. Now if the parent and their child’s problem is a relationship issue that means they need to just talk about things. Now I know that there are many people in numerous of places that can help. Including schools, doctors and many more. Now I think that this "LAW" should be ended immediately!
I think Nebraska's Safe Haven Law is a good idea but I think there should be age stated. I also believe that Safe Haven Laws in general are good because it helps take care of unwanted children or children who's parents can't take care of for some reason like lack of money. I think the age of the child should be up to ten years old because if they are older there would be too many children for the authorities to take care of. I think if the children are older it is a way for parents to give up on some bad kids. Parents need to be responsible for their children. If parent can't take care of their older children they should get help not abandon them. I think parent who leave their older children need to be questioned to see if they really can not take good care of them. Once parents give up their older kid they should give up all rights and let the child be adobted. These parents should not be able to have their children back. All children even the older ones should be allowed to find secure homes and not be with parents who don't want them or can't take care of them.
I think that the Nebraska's Safe Haven Law is a very good idea because some parents are not ready to have a child and would not be able to take good care of that child. So the parent would be able to let there kid go to a better place and be able to get the care they need and deserve.
I think that Safe Haven Laws, in general, are a good idea because that way if a parent is not ready to handle a baby and is scared they would have somewhere to go.
I think the age limit should be for this law 17 because you never no what can happen and that parent might be going threw i rough time and not want there kids have to see that.
The parents that drop of the kids should have to go threw a process to make sure they are dropping of the kid for a good reason. And for the children that get dropped off they should be able to make there own decision on what they would like to do but if they are to young then someone that works there can make the best choice for the child.
I think The Safe Haven Law is right. Yes kids will have their feelings hurt but rather they be with someone who wants them instead of someone who doesn't. It is a good idea it is better than abortion and dumping a baby in a dumpster. Age limit should be 17 because 18 and older can take care of themselfs , but at the same time if they are unable to take care of themselfs if they are mentally challenged. The parents should as before asked no question and let the child be in more responsible adult . Rather than a drug-addict teen or abusive parents. The children should be but in foster care until they become adopted and then lead normal lifes.
I think that Nebraska's Safe Haven law is not very "safe". I think the child should be no more than 3 yrs old. If the child is any older he/she can understand. The child would be depressed to be abandoned like that and may even run away. Also, I think if he/she is or was being abused or mistreated by the parents/guardians they should be confronted. The guardians shouldn’t be able to just go away after mistreating the child like that. On the other hand I think children that are old enough; say a teen, should be allowed to go by themselves and say that they no longer want to be in that household. In that case the child’s home should be checked to see if he/she has a good home. I believe they should be able to go by themselves, so they can turn to someone for help. Maybe they can even find a better foster home that they like and that is like a real home for them. I think Safe Haven Laws are a very good idea. They help children get better homes and better families. I think if a child is being abandoned the age limit should be 3 and if the child comes by themselves it should be 18. I think the parents who have dropped off their children should be checked out to see how they have treated the child. The children should be taken care off or they should find a better home for the children. Those children should have access to cloths, food, a good shelter, education and all the other necessities that every other child gets.
I think that the Nebraska's Safe Haven Law is a very bad idea.I think it's a bad idea because some parents might just drop there kids off just so they don't have to waich them or take care of them. And that's what being a parent is about taking care of yout kid and making sure it's safe and healthy.
Hello Mrs. Santana,
Reading all about how Nebraska's safe haven law that allows parents or guardians to leave their children there at any age with no questions asked was very interesting yet horrible. I understand our law, where if you don't want, your too young, you don't know what to do with the child up to four days old, you can leave the child at the safe heavens foundation. Up to four days old the child dosent understands the world. The baby won't know what’s going on, which make it better. After a month or two it’s horrible. Babies are humans to you know. They have the same feeling we have. There should be no reason why you should be allowed to drop a 1 year old to an 18 year old off to the organization. We are people, not a new puppy that is peeing everywhere so you have to give it up. I personally think that law needs to be change right this minute.
I think that Nebraska's Safe Heaven Law is a very good idea because somethimes parents cant support their children and they want them to be in a better place for their own good.So that law gives them a choice. I think that PEOPLE from all ages should be taken care by this law as well as chuldren because everybody has problems and sometimes even grownups cant support themself. But parents that dropped off their childrens for this law will have to deal with very strong emotions and might regret their did and thke their child back.
On the child side he will probably feel abondent and will have hard time making friends and might never see his parents again. He or she will go through a very dramatic event
I think we should not leave us child to other people or to a organisation. the gouvernment should give money to the people that need it and leave them with the baby. If they realy can`t continue they give the baby to the organisatin. they should let the child only when they gonne a be more older like 10 years old some things like that but me I`m not with those ruls I think you should have the write to have your babby and stay with him.

I think that Nebraska’s Safe Haven Law is a good idea because many parents did not like there children and throw them out and the children's
beg for food. That childer's not share there feelings and there wishes to any one.some children's do drugs and things like that. This law help some parents to give up a child and the law helpes to define the children's future.
I think that Nebraska’s Safe Haven Law isn't a good idea because if a parent just can't stand their sixteen year child one day and leave him then it too bad. Also if they can't stand their child one day the child or the other parent should not have to suffer. I believe the Safe Haven laws in general is a good idea for young unready parents. I believe the age limit for the law should be up to one years old so they don't get to attach to their parents. I think the parents who dropped off older children should have their children return to them because they are used to having their own parents. I think the children should have the right to say if they want to go. Also they one who have been dropped off should stay with their parents till they feel they are old enough to leave.
I think the safe haven law is a good idea because it could help from either finding a child in a dumpster to saving a child from an abusive house hold.Safe Haven laws are ment to protect kids so yes, they are a good idea in general(or atleast that`s my opinion).I think an appropriate age limit for this law is probably about 15,because once your 16 you can have your license and can go out and get a job to support yourself. As far as the parents, when they drop off their kids, they should not be allowed to have anymore children due to the fact that they let go off their other child and the kids who have been dropped off should be treated very special. That`s my opinion on all of this.
Its a bad idea for Nebraska to have the Safe Haven Law to be 18 years and under.I think that Nebraska should change the age to be babies 7 and under day old. So when the babys grow up they will not feel the pain that maybe a 9 or 15 year old would have on the sepration. I think that Safe Haven is a good idea because if a young girl becomes pergant and she cant take good care of the baby, she could bring it to Safe Haven. I think that the parents how dropped off their older children they should have time to get their selves cleaned up and when they are ready and are approved by some kind of athority that they are capable and their home is suitable to rise a child. The children should be put with another family until the parent or parents are ready. But when that time comes the child gets to choose what they want to do, either stay or go with their real parents.
I do not think Safe Heaven Law is a
law and not very safe. I don't think it is a good idea because there are many things that could wrong and is not safe. I think the age limit should be up to the age of 7. I think the parents who drop off the older kids should give information because if they kept their kids for more than seven years the kids should be able to have the choose to go to live with another family member or another family that the child knows who will take them. I think that the Safe Heaven Law is not very safe because they ask no question, but if you do not want a baby it keeps the baby safer. I only think it's a good idea for babies not for older kids.
I like the Nebraska`s safe haven law if it is a baby that you can`t support, so you don`t have to abort or get rid of the baby. But I also don`t like the law because you can abandon a child up to 18 years old just because you don`t want him or her anymore. So I think it is a good law if it has a much lower age limit.
I think the Nebraska Safe Haven Law is a good idea because there are some parents who migth not want there sons, because first you think there gonna be good, and when they grow up, they turn out to be thugs, drug addicts and other stuff. Some people dont even like to have a child. Sometimes people give there sons all they want, and they turn out to be bad people. I think all states should have this, but i think that if there are 2 parents and only one wants the child, both parents must approve to give it up. Besides, the parents are the one who took that person into this world.
I think that Nabraska's Safe Haven Law is a good idea because it gives parents a chance to give up their children to a probably better, nicer, cleaner neighborhood and family. Like if it's because they're low on money then they should make up their minds of getting a job or giving the baby away. Also it's good because if the parent just can't make up their minds then the system makes up their mind for them pretty much because it only gives them until 4 days.
I think Nebraska’s Safe Haven Law is not the best idea around because parents of there own child shouldnt just give them up. Some newborns were given up i dont know why but the parents didnt give it a chance to be together they just gave it away. I think the age limit for this law should be when they would be just born or maybe a little bit older because then the babies would adapt and the parents left them and they are all grown they would always have that sad feeling of missing there family or even anger inside of them asking themselves why they left them.
VERY BAD IDEA !!
I think that the safe haven laws aren't even considered safe.It gives parents the thought that they can just leave there kids with no concerns. In alot of cases kids get left for a long time and its sad that a person would actually be dumb enough to forget about their children
I think Nebraska's Safe Haven Law is messed up. It's a great thing if they would put an age limit on it. Simply saying a "child" is just wrong. At about the age of two a child would realize if there parent is abandoning them. Dropping you child of at lets say seventeen is just crazy. They have been with the parent for seventeen years. Why all of a sudden would they get rid of them when there already old enough to take care of themselves? Safe Haven Laws in general are a good idea because it saves many lives. Knowing there's a place to take you child can change someones mind who is thinking about killing the baby. Also, since there are no questions asked, the parents will seem a lot less scared of facing fines for abandonment or cruelty to children. I think the age limit should be up to one year. Yes the child will be very confused becuase they get very attached to there parents within one year. Any older though, the child will probaly have a very dramtic life because they will always remeber the day there parent left them. With one year, they can get accustomed to there life and probaly wont remeber the day very well or at all. I think that the parents who dropped off their older kids should get find and/or go to jail. Thats just cruelty to children. I don't think the children should be returned to the parents because if the parents tried to get rid of there children once, who knows what they would do next. The children should be taken to a foster home or taken to some caring parents who would treat them well and not get rid of them.
I think that nebraska's safe haven law is not such a great idea. I dont know how you can just drop off any child and not love it? Its just so sad, for a parent to do that:( Say that the kid was like 10, and she loved her home and her family and you just take her away from her hole life and family. thats is just so sad:( thats my opioion of the safe haven law.
I thank that Nebraska`s safe haven law is A good I idea becuse if the child stays with its parents and they cant support or let that baby have A good life they can make a decision to keep the baby or to give it away and let that baby have a normal life.I think in general its a good idea.I think there should not be a age limit. For the parents that leave their children they would let them see their childs and let that baby know there real parents. And for the childs that are there they should get adopted into A household where the parents can support them and have a normal life.
Nebraskas safe haven law, can be both a good and a bad thing. A good thing because if teens get pregnant and cant afford there child, and they want a better home for them, they can give them to a good family.
Its a bad idea because i would not want to be dropped of at age 13 to a new place to live. I think that if the children are under one year old they can be dropped off.
The parents that drop off there kids, should not be allowed to own other kids for 5 years. That is there consequence to giving up there child.
Overall the idea is good, i think it is a safe way for children to grow up with out abuse or not enough money to be supported.
I think that Nebraska's Safe Haven law is not good because alot of kids will feel abandned. I do think that safe haven laws are good because parents that are not ready to have kids should be allowed to put them somewhere without puting them up for adoption. I think the age for this law should be four months. I think that they should give the parents classes on parenting skills for older kids. I also think the older kids should have classes on whatever problem they are having.
I think that Nebraska's safe haven laws aren't really good. If parents are giving their kids away when they're 17 years old then it makes the child feel like nobody loves them. I think that Nebraska should take away those laws.
My view on Nebraska's Safe Haven Law is that is SOME cases it might be a good thing and at the same time it is terrible. For example, if the parent cannot support the child or if they had records of being abusive a drug addict,or being an alcoholic then the best thing for the child when born or at least 9 months old is to be given to the state. If given away at an older age then the child will think they did something wrong and feel abandoned and that they will go through an emotional state and it will stay with them forever that there parent abandoned him/her.So, in general my idea on the Nebraska's Safe Haven Law is it is good idea some cases like i said.I think the age limit for Nebraska's Safe Haven Law should be from when the child is born to 9 months old. What should happen to the adults is that they should sign some papers and be asked questions to see what the reason is.The children should be put in a foster home even as bad as it sounds because I don't know where else they would be put.
My opinion on the safe haven of Nebraska is that I disagree with it. I disagree because of the fact that I do not like the idea of parent(s) leaving there child to other people just because they don’t want it. Now I do like the idea that parent(s) can drop off there kids for good reasons like: if it is too much to take care of a child because of them being still in school and don’t have the time or money to keep the baby, or if a couple can’t have a baby because of the women being barren. That I can understand.
I think Nebraska's Safe Haven Law is a good thing for very young kids because kids that are younger do not know their parents and if they are given away they will not miss them.
The Safe Haven Laws in general is a good idea because when the kids get older their parents might abuse them.
I think the age limit should be five months old to give the kids away.
If parents tried to give away older kids the parents should be sent home and the older kids would be sent to foster home.
Maxel M period 1
I think the safe haven law is a good law because it gives a child a chance for a better life and that any child should be allowed to be going into the safe haven for a chance of a better life. If a parent drops off an older children it is because they can not take care of it any more and they are trying to give the child a good opportunity of a new start and I think that the children should be took into it and nothing should happen to them.
Safe haven Laws can be good and bad. It helps a child by giving them a better home and future, but since the article only says child that could be the age of 1-18 years old. and I don't think that is right because if your the age of 3 u might not remember what is going on right now because you have just entered this new world. And for kids who are 10 years old might have made some friends and or like the place their in and don't want to leave. The kids that are 10 years old can have developed feelings and it may hurt them from being separated from their parents.
I think that Nebraska's safe haven is a good idea if the parents do want the kids they might KILL them or something crazy like leave them in the desert. I think that the age should be up to 15.

I think that Nebraskas Safe Haven Law is the worst idea that I have ever heard of. How would any child feel if he or she was abandone by there parents in some clinic. Any child in then world would be devastated to be taken away from their home, especially little kids who do not understand what is going on. Any child over 3 are old enough to realize that they are being forced out of there homes. I dont know about any other kids out there but after 13 years of living in my home with my family I would be devastated if I had to leave.
Wow is a lot of pros and cons to the Safe Haven law. I think its kinda a good idea and a bad idea! Its a good idea because the kids should be in a better home. its bad because its just sad for there parents to make that . I think the age should be a little older. The parents should think before they act.
I think that the Safe Haven Laws are bad. Children are separated from their famalies. That would stink if I got separated from my family. Parents should not leave their kids just becaise they have a problem. They should work hard to fix it. This is not a good idea.
I think that the Nebraska's Safe Haven Law is a very good idea. It helps teenageres because they wont have to deal with carrying a baby around. And there parents wont find outabout it. whoever came up with this is a genius
I think Nebraska's Safe heaven Law is a good idea but only for kids like 1- 10 years old. Older Kids would get upset, feel bad if they think their parents just abandoned them. The safe heaven law can save a lot of children who doesn't have any place to live or their parents can not take care of them. I think their only problem is the age limit.
I think Nebraska's Safe Haven Law should be change from a child to an infants 4 days old. But the other states Safe Haven Law are good. They give kids who wouldnt have a decent life maybe a better one. The parentsof the unwanted kids should just feel really bad, thats it. The kid should be with the other unwanted kids and grow up in a house. Like an orphange, but go in a regular school and the governent pay for college.
I think the the Safe Haven law is a good idea because the child will be safer. It's better then aborting the baby or abondoning it. I think that age limit should stay the way it is because it is better than the child being abused by the parent and having nothing to do about it because they are not old enough to.
I think Nebraska's Safe Haven Law is both a good and a bad thing. First of all, it's good that the unwanted child is not being abused, killed, or just dumped alone somewhere, but instead left in a safe plae where people will take care of the child and hopefully find a better home for him or her. If the child is dropped off at a safe haven then obviously the parent does not want to take care of the child for whatever reason and that would not be good for a child to live in a house where they are unwanted, unloved, or cant be cared for properly. I think Nebraska's Safe Haven law is not good in the fact that it allows parents to drop off a child up to the age of 18 years. That is just way too old to be dropped off. I think the law should be for newborns up to 3 months old. It is also not good becaause it allows a child to be dropped off and given to the state without both parent's permission. What if a dad or mom dropped off his or her child at one of these places without telling the the other parent? Maybe the other parent wanted to keep the baby and now it's turned over to the state. When leaving a baby at a safe haven place, the parents should be required to be interviewed by social workers and find out the situation at home and why the child is no longer wanted. Before giving the child to a foster family they should make sure that there are no other relatives like grandparents, aunts, or uncles that will take the child and give it a loving home. The child will feel much better with familiar people than with a group of strangers. Like a few other people mentioned, I agree that the parents should not be allowed to have any more children since they gave one away. That should be their punishment.
I disagree with Nebraska's Safe Haven Law. The law was not enacted to enable parents to drop off unruly children. It was intended to secure a "safe haven" for unwanted newborns for those who do not believe in abortion or are afraid. However, there must be a rational age limit to when you can "drop" your child or children off at these Safe Havens. If a parent is so desperate to drop off their child, then it is probably a good option since the child would have otherwise lived a life of abuse and neglect.
I think that Nebraska's Safe Haven Law is not write because If the parents decided to have kids they made that promise to take care of that kid. Worst part is that some parents are giving up 18 year old teens up. That is just not write. I think that the maximum age to drop a child of is 1 because if you know you are going to drop of your kid you should do it when there young not when they are 18. And this is what I think about the Nebraska's Safe Haven Law. :)
The Nebraska's Safe Haven Law to me is not a good idea, because if a parent doesn't want their children and his could be 16 and be dropped in front of the house they would take him i think the maximum time should be a month to drop the newborn baby, i also think it is a bad influence because girls would care less about protection because the can just give it away, but the only reason why i think it's good is because it can prevent abortion.
I believe that Safe Haven Laws in are good because it helps take care of unwanted children or children who's parents can't take care of those children because maybe they don’t have alot of money or are drug or alcohol addicts. I think the age of the child should be around ten or eleven years old because if they are older kids there would be too many children for the shelters to take care of. I think the parents who have dropped off their children should have background checks to see how they have treated the child and if the parent is a bad person. The children should be taken care of or they should find a better home for the children. Those children should have cloths, food, a good shelter, education and all the other privileges that every other child gets.
I think safe haven laws are good because some parents cannot take care of thier child or support it.It also shows that the parents do care about the child because they want for the child to have a better chance at life. Also I think that Nebraska takes the law to far.By eightteen the child already could take care of him/herself.I think the law should extend from 4days to at least a week in Florida to see if they want to keep the child.
Hello Mrs. Santana,
Reading all about how Nebraska's safe haven law that allows parents or guardians to leave their children there at any age with no questions asked made me think that it about a lot. It was very interesting yet horrible. It's not a good idea at all! I think the age limit should be up to a week old, nothing more. For the parent that drop of their older kids they really must need some help. You can have a kid, and want to give it away unless you have some major problems. The older kids should be able to go where they want, maybe a family members house, friends, anywhere but throwing them in a foster home right away. That's horrifying. I personally think that law needs to be change right this minute.
Nebraska's Safe Haven laws are a good idea. I think they should be inforced in all states. All of the hospitals around the united states should be able to take in children when parents cant afford to take care of them selves and a child. The law should be as it is. The oldest age they should be allowed to take in is 17. At the age of 18 you should then think as an adult does. The parent(s) should be promised good care of thier child. As a child, I believe other children should be given whatever that is needed to servive and stay healthy. Since its explensive for the hospitals, to be able to give a child what they want. The children should still be able to get privilages.

I like the Safe Haven Law. I think that it is good to have a Safe Haven Law because it can save a child's life. I also like the law because it gives children a chance to have a better life with different parents.
I think the Safe Heaven Law is a good idea cause i rather have that law then having babies and kids thrown into the trash can!I think they shouldn't have an age limit. Now i dont agree on moms getting rid of their kids and i hate hearing that babies were found dead in the trash cans! I know this girl that they found her in the trash can and they took her to emergency in the hospital they were able to get her to breathe and later on in the year her adoptive parent told her they found her in a trash can and she tried killing herself but luckly shes better now but i would like seeing children going through that and even though i have seen a couple of my classmates dont agree i do!:)
I think that the law should have been asigned an age limit. Honestly, who would go drop off an 8 year old at a hospital in a totally different state? Obviously you made it 8 years, you only have 10 more. It is your responsibility as a parent or gaurdian to take care of the child. It would be different if your child was a week old. But not 8 years. the safe haven law is definately a good idea. it gives children a chance to live with a family who loves and cares for them.
I think that Nebraska's safe haven law can be a good idea or a bad idea just depending on your situation. If you are sixteen and can not even care for yourself how can you care for a child. Or maybe your living conditions are not good for a kid. Safe haven laws should not happen if you are wealthy and can give support to a child and have time. For the parents that drop off their children they should be able to check in the child to see how they are.
I think the safe haven laws are good because if somebody does not want their child or the child is not happy then they can be dropped off their child off.I think that they can be really helpful to a family that is going through troubles. The only thing i think is not good is that if someone is 16 or 17 this can change their life.
I think the Safe Haven law is terrible. Especially the age limit. If they are allowing 18 year old teenagers to be there, then how have the parents dealt with them for the first 18 YEARS! The only reason a parent should think about putting their child in Safe Havens, is if they are young and pregnant teenage girls who want a better environment for their child. Otherwise,I think it is WRONG!! I think the most appropiate age for child going there would be between the birth and it's first birthday!
I think that Nabraska's Safe Haven laws are a bad idea.I do think that we should have some kind of Safe Haven laws but i think it should be only for new borns. For example the Florida Safe Haven laws say that you can only drop off a child 4 day old or younger. I think that the Parent should have to take their children back and if they didn't want the resonsiblity of having children then they should have thought more about it.
I am against Nebraska's Safe Haven Law because, children have emotions, even little 1 year old kids.
The parents should think of a way to help the child become a better person like thinking of a way to earn more money or taking the child to therapy.
Children is not just like a toy that you get bored withing 5 minutes. It's a big reponsability.
Like I said before, I'm against Safe Haven Law, but if it needs to be one, the age limit should be 5 years old. =)
I think the "Safe Haven" Laws are a good idea I guess. I really could care less, but it is a good idea to give an "unwanted child" to a "Safe Haven." If it happened to someone close to me, I would probably care alot more about the subject, but until then, I don't really care. I was reading the other comments and I came across Demi's. I totally disagree with her. She's saying that a mother SHOULD NOT give their child away even if they barely make enough money to support themselves.
I think Nebraska's Safe Haven Law is good and bad. It's good for parents who may be alcoholics or other things, because the child will have better people to live with and will do better in life. The bad part is that they might not have enough room to take in all the kids.
I do not think that Nebraska’s Safe Haven Law is a goo idea. I think that a month should be the longest time until your unable to give away your child, but i do think the idea isagood idea. For some parents who are a sinlge parent,to young to be a parent, or just dont want the respociabillity of a child should be able to make sure their child has a better life. The age limit should be under a year, i think around a month or two. The parents who haved alredy dropped their kids off should either be finded or go to jail. The kids should chose would they rather go back home or stay properite of the state.
I think that the Safe Haven law is a good idea. In genral the law is good becuase instead of the baby being aborted, killed, and discarded. I think the age limit should be near 3 or 4. Becuase a kid starts to notice things at age 5 and is no longer so young anymore. When the parents drop off older kids, the safe haven should take them becuase the parents would resort to just abandoning them and the kids wouldent know what to do and would mabey die. When the kids are taken in they should take acre of the older children and give them to an adult if they are adopting.
I think the safe haven law is not good at all because you just dont give you child up as a teen. they are old enuff to go live with a other family member or a friend. but as a baby it is diffrent because you are little you really dont no any thing. or remember any thing. and not every one can live a good life. so why would you give you child up. i think that is rude. if you choose to have a kid then take care of it. if the child was a mistake then just give it up when it is a baby. i dont no but that is my opion on the law.
I think that the Safe Haven law is a good idea because it allows "children" to have a better life. Like if the child were to be aborted and never live. Like if the parents are irresponisble and do drugs or something it would be better for the child. But I do feel bad for the child because they will eventually know that there parents just felt like dropping them off away forever. So I think its partly good and partly bad. But people should just be prepared before having a baby.
I think it is okay to have the law because if the parent dosent want the kid they are able to drop them of at ages up to eighteen. It is the right thingfor the kid and it is a very great idea.
I think this law is not such a great idea. This is because this law makes anyone under 18 legal to abandon, this includes toddlers, teenagers, and babys. All kids have feelings so they should not be left for abandonment that is wrong. I think the age limit for this law should be 2 years old because the kid would not be very mature yet. The parents that have abandoned their children should be banned from haveing another kid and the kids that have already been abandoned should be placed in a better home.
I think Nebraska's Safe Haven Law is a terrible idea who want to get rid of their child I mean millions of kids should have a right to say so mething.I mean what the point of taking care of your kid for 17 or younger if your going to give them away.I don't like Safe Haven laws they are bad but it is better then putting them in a trashcan or dropping them off somewhere. The age limit should at least 1 yrs old. The parent should give personal info of the child they drop off.The children should at least know who there parents are so the parent could give thier number or where they live.
I think that Nebraska's Law is so cruel to kids. I think giving away your baby after maybe at the most a year of having is okay becuase you figured out that you really cant take care of this baby. but common like giving away a child that you've had for 13 or even 17 years and you just give them away like that? It makes me so mad to see or hear about that. i think the age limit should be 2 maybe even one. I dont understand why someone would do that it doesn't make any sence to me. Why did the mom even get pregnant if they would just give it up right after. okay, im not saying get an abortion but try not to get pregnant if your going to give it up anyways. Why can't you just take a couple days or weeks out of your life and give the baby/toddler/teen to an adoption home were they could get a good family who actually will love and care for them. <3
i think the safe haven law is not good because kids are being abandoned by people that won't even bother to help there child. And some kids are being given away at such a young age and is not right. And they are sad because they want help but they do the bad stuff anyway and the stuff they do there parents won't help them so they just give them. So kids are sad because they are abandoned by helpless parents.
I think that nabraskas safe haven law is a good thing because alot of childeren are killed because there parents dont like them and this law can safe many poor inacent children from being killed.Yes then again i do think they are a good idea because it can save lifes. I think that the age limit for this law should be 14 and under because anyone over that age is not really going to be as understanding as the younger kids. The kids that are dropped off that are over the age limit should still be found a home because if you send them back to the home tat they came from they might be killed or put back out onto the street and that is what the perpose of the law is supposed to protect.
What i think is that is such a good idea only sick people will throw their baby away i mean that should be life in prison. Yes of corse the least someone who dose not want their baby could do is give it to a fireman to let it live. I think the age limit should be 1 mounth but that will be the highest the least should be 4 days that means you could not be able to give your baby away for 4 days. What should happen to those parents is they should be able not to have a nother baby. The children shoud just go where they want
Are you serious? Who is crazy enough to do that. First of all the people who made this law are out of their mind! Second of all who is crazy enough to give away their kid after being 17 years or less with them! If you did not want your kid, you should have put it up for adoption as soon as born. That child id part of you now. Do they not have a heart? Okay so what if the kid made some mistakes. That gives you no reason to give him/her up! Who drives all the way from Georgia to Virginia to give their child up? Apperantly a psyco mind. If that were to be my parent I would sue him or something because they have got no right. No one is saying if you do not want your kid get an abortion. We understand if you were sexually abused or something, but do it as soon as your kid has been born! Come on! Think a little, please? Don't break a kid's heart. :(

What do you think about Nebraska's Safe Haven Law?
· i think Safe Haven Laws, in general, are a good idea. beacuse it makes kids more safe. i dont no how people could not want there kids. i think the age limit should be 1 years old so if they find out they cant handle there kid they can give them to someone to suporte them. and then they will not hurt there children
they should have to take there child back or they should have to pay money to give there child away.
i believe that the child should be found a home if they are 14 and younger.
I think the Nebraska state Haven Law is a good law because it allows kids up to the age of 17 to go there and get help and maybe get away of problems they we're facing at home maybe as abuse,or just there parents were very curul to them.
I think that the Nebraska State Haven Law is a good idea in general.
I think the age limit for Nebraska should stay the same and not change.
I think that nothing should happen to the parents that drop them off because that is there and the childs choice if neither the child or the parent want to be with eachother I think the Nebraska State Haven Law is a good solutiton.
I also think nothing should happen should happen to the children and they should be cared for and loved just as much as any other child.
I think that the Nebraska's Safe Haven Law is a good idea, but only for little children they shouldnt be dropping off a 8 year old or a 17 year old. I think the age limit should be 2 weeks through age 3. The parents that drop off the older children, they should go to a foster care and they should encourage them to get a job and start getting money to buy an apartment.
i think its an ok idea its better for a child to eventually have a family that possibly die soon after in a dumpster. This gives unwanted children a second chance.
:^)
I dont think that law is a good idea. That would be terrible.
I think that the safe haven laws are good for new borns because many women have been sexuallly violated and have become pregnate but can't afford a child. And also young women cannot handle a baby girl/boy with being in school. What I disagree with the safe haven law is that in Nebraska a child should be defined as a new born up to 4 days or maybe even 7 days old. But up to 18 years of age! That is wrong is so many ways. No kid that is over a week old should be given up just because the parent doesn't feel like having a kid no more. First off giving away a kid at 8 years of age would put a great deal of depression and stress on the kid for the rest of is life to actually know his real birth parents and to be given up by them.
I personaly think that the safe haven law here is good but should be made up to a week. Also I think that Nebraskas safe haven law is bad because they can send up to teenagers. I think Nebraska should change to sevsen days also.
I think the new law is great. It saves lives. I hear alot of stories about people finding babies in trash cans or in the street. The agew limit should be anybody under eighteen. All kids should be treated fairly and should have a normal life. The parents who drop there kids off should not be punished. They are just not capable of taking care of a child.
thats not cool. like, giving away children that old must be horrible. the age limit should be maybe like two years. but it is a good law, because it can save some lives. it must be so hard on those older children that have already been given
away. . . . . leia, you wrote allot! WOW.
I think the safe haven law is a very good idea. If parents don’t want there child then they should have a place to put them. We don’t want parents abandoning there children do we? I don’t think so. But I don’t like is all ages can be dropped off it would really upset me if I got dropped off at 13 knowing my parents don’t love me . I’m human I have feelings. I think the age limit should be from infant to 10 12 years old. But overall it’s a good thing Nebraska has a safe haven law and I think every state should have it.
i think its a good idea because sometimes people cant handle there kids.yes they can give childs new life.no age limit any one should b allowed.they should get a fine
I think that Nebraska's Safe Haven Law is the law that u can get rid of your kid up to 17 years old so what i think about that is that no one should get rid of there kid's but people do. I think that the age limit should be 5 days old. I think it should be that young because a kid thats older already know's who the parent is and if the kid is only 5 days old then most likly he/she wont know who the parents are. I know i said it before but never ever should kids be given away and if they are giviin away they should be young and should be givin to a cop or a fire fighter or the hospital.
I think the safe haven is good but only for kids 1 and younger. Because that sucks for 2 and up because thats when us kids start understanding the world. And we have feelings and we should be able to voice our choice because thats mega unfair. How would we be able to continue to college easily if we dont have our real parents.
I think that the Nebraska's Safe Haven Law is a good thing, because its better than killing the child or abusing them. If the parent knows that they will be a bad parent, so the parent drops the child off to someone who will be a good parent so the child can have a great future.
I think that the Nebraska's safe Haven Law Isn't fair because, I think that if anything you should only be aloud to drop off your children at the age of 4 days or less. I think that should be the longest time ever. Because I don't think its fair to drop of your children at some place I mean seriuosly Would you like to be dropped off there if your a kid.I do not like that law. Ido think that if your gunna want to drop your kid off like that why would you have a child any way if your gunna end up giving your kid up i do not think it is fair. I also don't think its fair to be taken away from your home. Well that is what I think about the law
I think that the safe haven law is great , but they need to be more descriptive. The parents should not be punished because it is alot better than a abotion. And the kids should not have to stay with the parent because if the have to stay with the parent does not want the kid and it has to stay with with the parent. The parent might treat the kid bad.
i think nebraska's save haven law is a good idea.Although i think the age limit to 1 because it wont be as hard for a child to leave. if they leave with the fact that they knew there parents and never see them again, that would make a child miserable every day. also an adopter parent wont want a miserable child.
